BHR and Lavola organize the event: "Reporting on SDGs and human rights: Am I being coherent in

On July 5th, BHR and Lavola organized in Madrid the event "Reporting on SDGs and human rights: Am I being coherent in my accountability?". The event sought to give answers to the growing importance that factors such as human rights or sustainability are acquiring in the business sector. Spain and Europe have shaped new regulations, currently in the process of being applied, directly related to these issues. Some examples are the European Directive on Non-Financial Information or the Spanish Plan for Business and Human Rights.

The event aimed to inform about the different tools available to carry out adequate reporting on human rights and sustainability, adapted to the new regulations and to the changing needs of the European and Spanish business context.

It is worth mentioning the participation of Inés Ruiz de Arana, Sustainability Manager of the Spanish automotive engineering company GESTAMP. Inés spoke about how GESTAMP has developed its due diligence in the field of human rights and sustainability and provided a real vision of the challenges and opportunities it can represent for a company that is constantly expanding.

As a preliminary discussion, Maria Prandi, CEO of BHR, had given examples of how actions in favor of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) should not be an excuse to avoid the implementation of due diligence. As a matter of fact, if due diligence is not carried out properly, while certain SDGs may be promoted through specific actions, they may be still in violation of other rights linked to these same SDGs.

Each and every one of the SDGs can be related to one or more human rights.

This correlation was shown through the following examples:

Finally, Juan Villamayor, Responsible for CSR Projects in Lavola, spoke about how to convert the results of a due diligence process into real and analyzable indicators to monitor the impacts on human rights and the SDGs with a temporal perspective.

BHR y Lavola organizaron el pasado 5 de julio en Madrid la jornada “Reportando sobre ODS y derechos humanos: ¿Estoy siendo coherente en mi rendición de cuentas?”. El evento responde a la creciente importancia que factores como los derechos humanos o la sostenibilidad están adquiriendo en el sector empresarial. España y Europa han dado forma a nuevas normativas y regulaciones, actualmente en proceso de aplicación, relacionadas directamente con estos temas, algunos ejemplos son la Directiva Europea de Información no Financiera o el Plan Español de Empresas y Derechos Humanos.

El evento pretendía informar sobre las diferentes herramientas disponibles para realizar un reporting adecuado sobre derechos humanos y sostenibilidad, que se adapte a las nuevas regulaciones y a las necesidades cambiantes del contexto empresarial europeo y español.

Cabe destacar la participación en la jornada de Inés Ruiz de Arana, Gerente de Sostenibilidad en la empresa española de ingeniería automotriz GESTAMP. Inés habló sobre cómo GESTAMP ha desarrollado su debida diligencia en materia de derechos humanos y sostenibilidad y aportó una visión real sobre los retos y oportunidades que puede representar para una empresa en constante expansión.

Como discusión previa, María Prandi, CEO de BHR, había comentado con ejemplos cómo las acciones en favor de los ODS no deben ser una excusa para obviar la implementación de una debida diligencia. Efectivamente, si no se realiza una debida diligencia se puede estar promoviendo unos determinados ODS mediante acciones concretas pero se puede estar, al mismo tiempo, vulnerando otros derechos vinculados a estos mismos ODS.

Todos y cada uno de los ODS puede relacionarse con uno o más derechos humanos.
