Senior Consultant- Human Rights Due Diligence

 

Effective Date: June 2023
Type of Employment: Full-time employee (40 hours/week) 

Compensation will vary based on skills, experience, and location.

 

Location 

BHR will consider candidates located in Madrid, Barcelona and Europe. All BHR team members work remotely, with occasional in-person engagement.

 

The Role

The Senior Consultant independently carries out due diligence implementation processes and facilitates meetings and workshops. The Senior Advisor provides reports on human rights impact assessments, gap analysis, action plan and recommendations.

 

What You Will Do

You will have an initial onboarding period of about 1+ months, focused on deepening your knowledge of the UN Guiding Principles and BHR’s methods, tools and resources, and working in a support role to other team members. Following the onboarding period, you will:

  • Lead and/or support a range of initiatives to advance implementation of the UN Guiding Principles with diverse partners, including companies, governments and civil society organizations;

  • Lead and/or support capacity-building with project partners and other stakeholders on applying the concepts in the UN Guiding Principles including through the design and delivery of tailored workshops;

  • Draft reports on human rights due diligence;

  • Travel to conduct engagements in a wide range of settings, particularly those engagements that require the involvement of a senior team member;

  • Project manage individual partnerships or projects to help ensure they are delivered on time, on budget and to a high quality;

  • Ensure that essential administrative tasks are completed on time, including those related to projects;

  • Lead and/or support internal organizational projects, including strategic planning and evaluation;

The person in this role will be expected to travel, as needed, to conduct engagements in a wide range of settings. Travel requirements are seldom.

 

What You Bring to the Team

Required:

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience regarding human rights due diligence in a variety of sectors;

  • Demonstrated ability to project confidence and maturity when engaging with businesses, governments.

  • A high degree of comfort with presentation and public speaking, and an ability to adapt communication style to different audiences.

  • Strong skills in workshop design and multistakeholder facilitation.

  • Experience independently managing a broad range of complex or enterprise-level projects, including leading process design and analysis across multiple workstreams and developing and delivering on time-bound plans

  • Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, synthesize and explain information clearly and compellingly.

  • Experience working independently and also collaboratively with a small team, and comfort with adapting to changing situations.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.

  • Experience working on business and human rights, and particularly with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, in an applied context.

  • Experience with due diligence and reporting standards.
